Instrumental and Vocal Private Lesson Policies
-
Lessons are preferred to be scheduled on a weekly basis at a consistent day and time for the benefit of the student’s growth.
Please arrive on time and prepared to begin. Lessons will end at the scheduled time, even if the student arrives late.
Consistent attendance is key for growth and progress.
-
24-hour notice is required for cancellations to qualify for a make-up lesson.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice and no shows will not be eligible for a refund or make- up lesson except in cases of emergency or illness.
Make-up lessons will be scheduled based on teacher availability and are not guaranteed.
Make-up lessons do not count as credit for the next month’s lesson package.
-
Lessons bought as a package should be paid in full before the first lesson.
Individual lessons should also be paid in full before the lesson.
Payments can be made by cash, check, or electronically (details provided upon registration).
-
Students are expected to bring all assigned music, a bottle of water, and materials to each lesson.
Regular practice outside of lessons is essential for progress. Your teacher will provide clear practice goals each week.
Parents of younger students are encouraged to help support a regular practice routine at home.
-
Please do not attend lessons if you are feeling sick, especially with fever, cough, or contagious illness.
Virtual lessons (via Zoom or similar) can be offered as an alternative if you are mildly ill but still well enough to participate. However, studio rental fees cannot be reimbursed.
-
Open communication between teacher, student, and (if applicable) parents is encouraged.
Questions or concerns are welcome and can be discussed before or after lessons or via email.
-
A respectful, positive, and focused attitude is expected during lessons.
Students who are repeatedly disruptive, disrespectful, or unprepared may be dismissed from the studio.
-
Lessons will follow a set studio calendar with scheduled breaks and holidays announced in advance.
Weather-related closures will be communicated by email or text, with virtual lessons offered whenever possible.
-
Above all, lessons at DownStage Centre are designed to foster growth, confidence, and a lifelong love of music.
